Crush of the Week: Maggie Cheung

This week's crush is another actress - Maggie Cheung. I first saw her in the 2000 film In the Mood for Love and immediately took a liking to her. Western audiences probably know her best from Hero, released in the US last year. At 40 years old, she's still a looker.

Definitely check out this movie sometime. It may be a bit slow for some, but it's really well made (the soundtrack is excellent, too).

She starred in "Hero" with Dustin Hoffman? Did she help rescue those folks off the plane?

How did I know that you'd make a dumb comment about that other "Hero" movie?

KPMD - What can I say? I'm a lover of all women - as long as they're hot. :)

As for spydrz's quip, he made a similar one when I told him that I saw "Hero." Thus, no surprise.

Speaking of "Hero," I took Hunter (my 10 year old cousin) to see it over the summer. When we were picking out movies, he was apprehensive: he didn't want to "read" a movie. But then I showed him a clip on Yahoo! Movies (a kick-butt action scene, of course) and he was hooked. He got kind of confused by the chopped-up narrative, but liked the movie. That's my role as an uncle: expose him to cool stuff.

Now that you're test is over and your sweetie is across the ocean, go rent "In the Mood for Love." I think that you'd dig it. I'll even burn you a copy of the soundtrack, which is great (I even ordered the two CD French import - it's that good).

KPMD - Well, I'll say this, but it won't spoil much: the movie's not quite the pick-me-up that, say, "Notting Hill" is. But then, what movie could duplicate the euphoria created by the merger of an English fop and the former Mrs. Lovett? But I'll get the soundtrack out when I have time (yeah, right).

My favorite part of the speech was actually in the Democratic response (yeah, I'm a dork like that) when Harry Reid referenced the movie "Groundhog Day." Mad props!

And I've grown to really like Lieberman these past couple weeks, especially when compared to some of his counterparts in the Senate. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Kerry and Boxer.

KPMD - You are now officially classified as a "Right Wingnut." Good luck trying to shake that label, doc.

Talked to my dad today. Naturally, he asked about you. I'm not going to ruin his cheap thrills (i.e., lingering hugs) like Shamrock did to his dad.

Oh, man - I missed pretty much all of "Good Eats." On tonight's show Alton was cooking up duck (one of my faves). I'll have to catch this when they reair it. Alton's my boy!

OK, when you name some kind of sketchy indie film after an American classic, you've got te expect that people will poke fun of the name. Like the German drama "Tommy Boy," which was a great coming-of-age pic.
