"Merry Christmas, moviehouse!"

Well, I arrived safely back in C-Bus last night. The drive was uneventful, but at least it was clear and dry. And now, a few snapshots from my whirlwind trip to Richmond:

My brother's cat Snoopy. He's a cute (and gigantic) cat. Too bad I have to get all doped up on Benadryl whenever I go over to his house to visit or else I'll feel miserable.

The Best Dog in the World: Sadie. Here she's just chillin'.

My nephew Parker taking a break from the family.

Besides the bow tie (I WILL learn how to tie it in '05), bottle of Grey Goose and cash (to help keep my butt unemployed while I study for the bar), one of my favorite presents was this The Empire Strikes Back quilt that my mom made for me. 2004 was the year that she finished her many projects - this quilt was started in 1985.

We continued our Christmas night tradition of going to see It's a Wonderful Life at the historic Byrd Theater. When I become a millionaire and go through my philanthropic phase, the first thing that I'm going to do is get new seats for the Byrd. Seeing a long movie there is a test of ass endurance.

Ren and Stimpy look on the Great Talking Doll Debate of 2004 (moderated by Rachel Ray's visage). Reagan proclaimed "Government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem" to which Charlie Brown retorted with "Me? You want me to be the director of the Christmas play?" Considering my age, I got a lot of toys this year.

Lastly, I was greeted with about a foot of snow already on the ground when I returned to Cowtown last night. Here's the view outside of my front door.

Good thing we didn't get any snow in the 804. That would have been bad. As for those new seats at the Byrd, sign me up...

By the way, it's a "WOMDERFUL" life!!

Oh... that's one of my favorite movies! I want to some day retire from my real job and have cute little shop called Zuzu's Petals. A girl can dream, right? Jimmy Stewart is one of my favorite actors.

Bow tie? You gonna be one of those lawyers who wear bow ties and searsucker... a la Matlock?

JMBLYA, if you're going to wear seersucker, you'd best move out of A-HI-A. Plus, you have to learn to speak like Foghorn Leghorn. Ah do say, ah do say, that is correct.

You know... I grew up in A-hy-a. In the part some call Sin-sin-nattuh. I prefer the nickname "censor-nasty."

I still see seersucker in parts of Lexington... the bars that border the courthouses. I'm not kidding.

Hey. I was wondering...what does JMBLYA stand for, anyway?

I shouldn't answer for JMBLYA, but it is a tasty rice dish from Creole country...

Like Matlock...only younger. I'd LOVE to get a seersucker suit, but a) I'm under 50 and b) I live north of the Mason-Dixon line. One day, though. Until then, I need to learn to tie the bowtie. I bought a black one for a formal last year because a guy always looks cooler at the end of the night with a bow tie untied (rather than having a sad clip-on in your pocket). You know the look - Jerry Lewis in the 23rd hour of the telethon or Sinatra in the wee small hours of the morning. Well, I never could tie the damn thing, but after getting numerous compliments on his bow tie, my brother-in-law (and sister) gave me one for Christmas - with instructions on how to tie it.

I was pretty much the only southerner in my law school class and I joked with my friends that one day I'd show up in class wearing a seersucker suit. When asked a question by the professor, I'd start my answer by saying, "now, I'm no big city lawyer..."

As for JMBLYA, it's a license plate-friendly shortening of "jambalaya." A tasty creole dish, indeed. I love creole cooking and New Orleans is a fun place to visit.

Never been. Should have though. I was quite a flasher in my younger days... and would have picked up truckloads of beads. Now I just want to go down there to hear the ghost stories...

Now that I think of it, both JMBLYA and I have license-plate friendly versions of our names...only mine is our school mascot.

I thought Snickers was the best dog in the world?

Micah said...

Nope. That honor goes to Sadie. The former holder of the title was Blake, but who knows if he is still alive.

I miss Snicks :(
