"Moving forward, using all my breath..."

The bar review course started this morning. It's just as fun as I remembered when I took it this summer. I didn't realize that there's a 7 in the morning now, too. I guess it'll be good for me to get on a saner sleep schedule.

I've been in a pretty shitty mood for the past couple of days. Mainly because of an idiot boneheaded mistake that I made while paying my bills earlier in the month. I won't elaborate, but it's all getting sorted out. I can't stop dwelling on it, though.

At least the backlog of mail was delivered today and I received a CD that I bought off of ebay - Modern English's Pillow Lips (yeah, the one where they re-recorded "I Melt With You"). It even came in the original cardboard longbox! The CD's been out of print for years and I never replaced my cassette. I popped it in the car while I went to pick up my Chinese food and remembered every lyric. Man, it was like I was in high school in 1990 all over again: no job, not dating, studying for exams. Funny how some things don't change.

Also cheering me up is the unrated version of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy DVD that I picked up today. Some of the dialogue has been changed from the theatrical cut, though. I liked the theatrical version of Brick and Champ recalling the morning after the party better. Still, it's a funny movie. And the DVD of my favorite movie of 2004 came out - Garden State!

You stay classy, San Diego.

I popped in to Circuit City (staying true to my local company) for some Media-Buying-Tuesday action. Picked up a copy of the original Ocean's 11 (Rat Pack version) and shipped it off to Slovakia where it will no doubt be enjoyed during a cold, snowy winter afternoon.

Anchorman. So true to life. Seriously. My main anchor is the kind of guy who would pronounce things as a question if a ?? was put in the wrong place.

I went on opening night and almost peed my pants.

80s bands. I've always been a fan of New Order. And classic Madonna (before she became Esther).

This was sort of my last Media Buying Tuesday for a while, since I put myself on the budget. I looked at the calendar of upcoming releases, and there's really nothing that I can live without (or wait until I find a used copy of). Maybe "Curb Your Enthusiasm season 3." And I will find money for "Penn & Teller: Bullshit season 2." It pained me not to pick up "King of the Hill season 3" yesterday, but I'll get it another time.

I love New Order. I have fond memories of my brother and I visiting grandma (cruel irony: she had MTV, we didn't) and acting out the video for "True Faith." And "Regret" is one of my favorite songs ever. In high school art class I did a watercolor reproduction of the cover to that single - and it wasn't that bad. Last week I got "The String Quartet Tribute to New Order." Sure, it's gimmicky, but it's what I'd play at a really hip dinner party (along with the String Quartet Cure and REM discs that I have).

How's your mood? Check out http://www.americanangst.com/dingfries.html

It makes me laugh out loud... and few things do...

Similar to your Strings collection... I have several bluegrass cds, all instrumental covers. I've got Dave Matthews, U2 and The Eagles. All great for chillin' out in the summertime.

The fries thing is hilarious!! I have two history degrees...which pretty much prepared me for a job involving fries...

That's pretty damn funny. I may have to go get a Whopper for dinner tonight. Funny aside: I was talking to my mom about the financial mishap and maybe getting a job while I study and she actually suggested McDonalds. Ha! I haven't lowered myself that much. Although Kevin Spacey did seem pretty care-free in "American Beauty" once he entered the fast food job market.

My mood's better now that I'm sorting this crap out. And my sister, brother-in-law, and year old niece are scheduled to come up to visit tonight, so I'm looking forward to their arrival. Plus, Ohio State's bowl game is on tonight. And I'm skipping my bar review class in the morning. So, I guess it's not all bad.

I have the Led Zeppelin bluegrass disc. I'm tempted to get the Jimmy Buffett and Jack Johnson ones.

And just thought that you'd like to know that I switched my cell phone ringtone to "Bizarre Love Triangle" today.

Okay, scratch that one comment about my sister visiting. I just called her and they are waiting out an infection that my niece has. Maybe they'll be up tomorrow. Or not at all. So, this means that a) I don't have to straighten up the house just yet and b) it will be Nekkid Time for the bowl game tonight.

A) I don't think we needed to know about "Nekkid Time."
B) I hope things improve at Jenny's...it's not fun to worry about your daughter being sick when there's nothing you can really do to help.
C) My ringer remains "I Walk the Line" by the Man in Black. I've never found a more suitable ringer.

Nekkid time? Post the pictures.

My ring time is so boring. I have an old cell phone and haven't caughed up the cash for a new one. I think maybe when I do, I want either a trashy Britney Spears ring or Salt and Pepa's Push It.

Okay, not really.

Ahh the Buckeyes. I used to have a friend who shoved them down my throat so much (the team, not the candy) that I almost cringe whenever I hear someone mention them. For you, though, I'll make an exception :)

Since we're kind of mentioning Bluegrass here (BTW, Sirius channel 37 is all Bluegrass-one of the best channels they offer) has anyone tried Dolly Parton's new BG album?

Kate The Great said...

Ohh. You know... I have some aversion to Dolly's music. I don't know if it's the massive sweater meat or her odd wig collection... but I just can't take her seriously as a musician. Weird, I know, considering I have a sizable rack and have been known to wear a wig (pink.) Hmm. That reminds me of something...

My dad had lots of Dolly Parton tapes lying around when I was a kid, but I hadn't paid much attention to her since (except when my grandparents took me to Dollywood back in the 80s) until I heard about her new album. I caught the end of a song from it the other day in the car (on the Sirius) and she actually sounded pretty good. Not "Coal Miner's Daughter" at all.

spydrz, I think we hijacked the post!

Oooops. That was me ;)

JMBLYA won't care. Besides, he's "nekkid" and the Buckeyes are shutting out Oklahoma.

My internet's been out for the past few hours. Damn you, Roadrunner! I was watching the game, anyway. Almost a shutout, but still a great win. Really, you can't live in Columbus without getting inundated by the scarlet and grey.

Nekkid Time wasn't very exciting. It was more flannel robe, grey t-shirt, and pajama bottoms time. (red pants with white snowflakes, if you care)

Talked to my sister since my last post and they aren't coming up. They don't want to chance it with the kid being sick. But they might make the trip when mom and grandma come back (scheduled for fall of 2007). So I'll be the loan representative of my immediate family and my aunt and uncle's party tomorrow night.

Dolly Parton...she makes music? I'm usually too focused on her stuff to actually hear anything.

So, this post wins for the most commments on my blog. Congratulations.

That should read "lone" and not "loan." It's late.

One more point about the Buckeyes and central Ohio. EVERYWHERE you go, there's always a chance that the "O-H I-O" chant will break out. I've been at concerts where it happened. And a Clippers baseball game. I'm sure that they periodically do it while the state legislature is in session.

I especially love it when it happens during that damn Hang On Sloopy.

You can tell when you're at a Buckeye wedding...

Like how everybody shouts "O" during the national anthem at Camden Yards?
