Quick movie review: "X-Men: The Last Stand"

X-Men: The Last Stand: Astute readers of MW know that I have an inner comic book geek, so imagine my excitement when spydrz produced some free tickets to last night's showing of the new X-men flick. Did it deliver? Yep. Kelsey Grammer was perfectly cast as the Beast (Frasier's got mad ups, yo). Once again, Ian McKellen's Magneto steals every scene he's in. Colossus was always one of my favorite mutants (along with the sorely missed Nightcrawler), so it was great to see him, even if he wasn't used to his fullness in this movie. And Vinnie Jones as the Juggernaut* - aw, yeah. Dark Phoenix on screen? Sentinels? Nice. Sure, some of the choices made in this film annoyed the fanboy in me (they made Juggernaut a mutant?), but this was one heck of a summer popcorn flick.

*Somehow, the whole "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" internet phenomenon eluded me. Check out how it was utilized in the actual movie here.

the lady doesn't like loud movies, so i haven't seen it yet. and brett boy directed it, so i'm not TOO excited to see it...

but i'm an old comic book nerd. i even saw (and somewhat enjoyed) daredevil. fer cryin' out loud, though, singer better deliver in Superman. or there'll be a large-scale nerdicide goin' down.

mm- i went to the braves game today. my seat was sec 115, row a, seat 7(front row behind the visitor's dugout). In the top of the sixth, the charlotte knight's first baseman(6-5, 250-260),named rogowski, hit a towering shot to deep center. now, the wind was blowing in, so it didn't leave the park, but was impressive, nonetheless. i say all of this to say that when he got back to the dugout, he looked at his coach and said, " i'm the juggernaut, bitch". true story.

My daughter said she would have enjoyed it more if she hadn't read the comics. She said that there was one character who bore absolutely NO resemblance to her comic book counterpart, and that Halle Berry was awful.

I guess I'll wait for the DVD.

What? You didn't go see the Al Gore movie? LOL ;)

Oh my God. That Juggernaut thing is freaking hilarious. It reminds me of Pork Chop Sandwiches and Body Massages.

Please tell me somebody got that.

spydrz - Yummy.

jasdye - Ratner's getting shat upon (and I'm no fan), but his direction was serviceable. I have high hopes for Superman. Nerdicide should be avoided at all costs.

herodotus - But did he use a pimp cane for his bat?

panthergirl - Halle Berry should just stay out of comic book movies. As for the Al Gore movie, I try to limit myself to one sci-fi movie per weekend.

Kate - Racially insensitive? Likely. Played out? Probably. Hilarious? You bet. (although, at the time I watched the movie, I thought it was a very uncharacteristic line for Juggernaut - I'm a geek, you know).

law fairy - I have no clue as to the reference. Please enlighten me.
