Another quick movie review

Finding Neverland: Johnny Depp does a great job of portraying Michael Jackson with a Scottish accent. Seriously, his performance was terrific and justified my opinion of him as our generation's greatest actor. Despite that, I just didn't love this movie like I wanted to. The flights of imagination were really well-done. Winslet and the kids did a good job. There was even a really touching scene towards the end. Just something about it didn't click for me. Maybe it's the fact that the MJ trial is currently going on. I'm not really sure.

And a note to theater-goers with really young children: either get a babysitter or wait for the movie to come on DVD and freakin' watch it at home. Sheesh.

The movie is about Jackson??

Heh heh, aside from the whole child molesting thing, J.M. Barrie and Jackson share some similarities.

No way.

I totally didn't take that from the movie. I hadn't heard (in reading about the movie) that Barrie molested the kids but maybe I'm remembering wrong? His relationship with them in the movie seemed completely innocent to me. But I dunno, maybe I'm naive. And, okay, I'm also a little bit in love with Johnny Depp. Hey, I'm only human.

I didn't mean to insinuate that Barrie was a child molestor. Not by any means. I had heard that, but did a little research after watching the movie and it seems that, although there were allegations, there's no proof whatsover. In fact, some believe he was asexual.

The similarities with MJ are that both are entertainers and seem to prefer the company of children. And that whole "Neverland Ranch" thing.

I just thought it was funny timing with this movie's release and MJ's trial.

It's already out on DVD! (In fact, I'm surprised you could still see that and The Aviator in a movie theater!)

I rarely get to go to the movies these days, but as soon as I can I'm going to see Sin City. Cannot wait.

And Finding Neverland was one of the few movies that made my daughter cry...it would have to be REALLY touching to do that! I've been reluctant to see it because I think it might be too sad for me.

Sure, it's on DVD, but then you don't get the Big Screen Experience. Plus there's the cost: $3.50 or so to rent vs. $.50 matinee at the dollar theater. Then there's the added benefit of a shitty print, sub-par sound, uncomfortable seats, and screaming babies!

I REALLY want to see Sin City. I doubt I'll wait for that one to hit the dollar theater.

As for Finding Neverland, there were touching parts, but it was no Big Fish - the only movie that will repeatedly move me to tears.

Oh believe me, I'm totally a theater-experience person. I guess you have one of those theaters near you that keeps movies around for a long time. I wish I did!

I can get Big Fish on HBO on Demand...I should watch it. I'll let you know how many hankies it earns. One movie that made me sob was Sling Blade. I was a mess for a good hour.

Oh, and Love, Actually....cry like a baby every single time.

You gotta love the dollar theater. And Big Fish is the best. Got daddy issues? You'll bawl like a baby (not that I really have any, but it still got me).

Second on the Big Fish recommendation. I think the only movie that's made me cry more in recent memory was House of Sand and Fog, which should come with a bottle of Zoloft and some Kleenex.

I've heard about House of Sand and Fog, but never have seen it. Maybe one day I'll check it out.
