Guess I'm heading down South...

In an effort to keep my thousands of regular readers (and by "thousands" I mean "all 4 or 5 of you") informed - and so I don't have to write a bunch of e-mails, the Ohio State Bar Exam results were announced today and noticeably absent in the list of people who passed was me. But I went into the exam with a win-win mindset: if I passed, I'd get some type of law job; if I didn't, that'd put me on the fast track of moving back to DC or Richmond, where I want to end up, anyway.

Still, I can't help feel disappointed. If it wasn't verboten on Phase 1 of South Beach, I'd be plenty liquored up by now. And, yes, I've broken out the country music. Currently, it's Steve Earle's "My Old Friend the Blues":

Just when every ray of hope was gone
I should have known that you would come along
I can't believe I ever doubted you
My old friend the blues
Another lonely night, a nameless town
If sleep don't take me first, you'll come around
'Cause I know I can always count on you
My old friend the blues

Lovers leave and friends will let you down
But you're the only sure thing that I've found
No matter what I do I'll never lose
My old friend the blues

Just let me hide my weary heart in you
My old friend the blues

But at least I'm secure in the knowledge that I have a nice job and bright future. No, wait - I'm poor and unemployed. Well, there's always the love of an understanding woman. Too bad I don't have one.

Sorry - didn't mean to turn this into a pity party. It's just that I don't break things, get into fights, or have any "booty calls" at my disposal, so this is one of the few outlets for my frustrations. I think that I'll go to see Sin City and then hit the gym, just to get my mind off all of this crap.

And, no, I'm not taking any calls for a while.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. But if it leads you back to where you're able to find a decent job, then it's not all bad.

Fuck em' brother. Come down here and you've got a place to stay for as long as you need.

Take the CNMI bar as many times as you want, you'll hit gold eventually. Until then, we'll have a hell of a time.

Regardless, take some time off, and come visit me. I miss you.

Oh Micah...I am so sorry to hear that. But it does sound like Plan B isn't so bad, and moving always brings adventures.

Let us know what you thought of Sin City. And I'm impressed that you're sticking with South Beach through this, but GOOD FOR YOU!

Thanks, guys.

spydrz - We'll see where it leads me.

George - I couldn't sleep last night, so around 2 am I watched Donovan's Reef - an old John Wayne/Lee Marvin movie set in the South Pacific. An island paradise doesn't sound so bad right now.

pantergirl - I really would like a change of scenery. And the female population of C-Bus doesn't seem to dig me (at least, in that way), so...

As for Sin City, it was visually stunning. I'd read some of the graphic novels it was based on (I'm a geek, remember), so I knew what to expect: very violent. But a good movie. Still, I didn't love it like I wanted to. I just want to see a movie that makes my jaw drop in how great it is. The last one like that was Garden State.

And when I'm on a diet, I'm pretty good at sticking with it - even in the face of adversity. It's just those inbetween times.

CB - I'll need your deposit before I can buy that house. And I could use a hug.

I'm so sorry my positive vibes didn't work, Micah! I am calling my psychic to complain first thing tomorrow.

I now have very negative thoughts about the Ohio State Bar. They just plain suck, as far as I'm concerned. I'm getting drunk tonight in your honor. AT HOME. When I should be writing a paper (no need to thank me).

Good luck with the move! I was in Virginia recently and it's just gorgeous. And CB is right. Lawyers are really the scum of the earth, anyway.

What's the beverage of choice tonight? Because if you're drinking for me, it's gotta be something that I'd imbibe. Stick with scotch, rum, vodka, and bourbon...no beer (except Corona).

The move South isn't definite yet. I could end up staying here for a while longer. Or not. Everything's up in the air. I'll do some soul searching next week.

I love VA. Despite what my driver's license says and the fact that I've lived in OH for four years, I still consider myself a Virginian. You don't know how much that I want to move back.

In light of the hit my earning potential took today, my bar exam advice that I gave you doesn't seem so valuable now, does it? :)

Going into law school and all throughout it I was proudly anti-lawyer. They are scum indeed.

Sorry, we had plenty of Yuengling. No Core-ona. But then again I didn't have a choice because it was supplied by my guests...

I forgot to mention, rooms at Casa Doug are always available. I only ask for some help with the utilities.

Oh Micah, what a bummer. But I have to agree with some of the comments. You've heard that joke before: What's 500 lawyers chained to the bottom of the ocean? A good start.

Seriously, keep your chin up. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes the bad stuff is what leads us to the good in life.

And if you're looking for work, I'm in dire need of a househusband.

Aw, Micah. That sucks. And I'm sad to see the cool population of Columbus decreasing by one. Ugh.

On the bright side, moving south means fewer April snowfalls.

KtG - Would you settle for a cabana boy?

Kristen - Well, it's not 100% that I'll be moving, but this crazy "spring" weather isn't making me want to stay.

You're right - I am the bomb. Yo. Could you and Shamrock both dream that a stripper with bodacious ta-ta's doesn't want to jump my bones?

You're still going to try to pass the bar exam in the state you move to, right? You can't give up just because of one test.

Micah said...

Well, I may sit out the summer test and take either the VA or DC one in the winter. Partly because of necessity, since (at least in OH) the registration process is a long one and I surely have missed the cut-off for the summer exam elsewhere. But in the meantime, I need to make some money. Student loans will be due in October.

Any Steve Earle fan is getting the nice column checked in my book. Shit swings, man, and it'll swing back your way at some point.
