You know, I'm sensing that this restaurant has a subtle theme to it

I went to Outback Steakhouse for the first time last night and it was pretty good. I don't know how I managed to avoid the place all these years. A long time ago, before Outback became the Starbucks of steakhouses (one on every corner), I attempted to dine there, but the wait was going to be unbearably long. Last night was enjoyable, though.

The grilled shrimp were tasty. I had a cut of prime rib the size of my arm, which is never a bad thing. Hell, even the steamed veggies that I had with it were great. The whole Aussie theme was cute, but laid on a bit thick. After an hour or so spent in the restaurant, I'm praying that "joey," "sheila," and "walkabout" don't become a permanent part of my lexicon. Still, it doesn't win the award for Theme Overload (that prize goes to the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Vegas). Now if only they offered peanuts and you could just throw the shells on the floor...

Maybe I'll go shopping today. What's this Gap place that I've been hearing so much about?

Lonestar used to do the peanut thing. I imagine there was a lawsuit (*cough cough*) that changed that.

I always thought that that aspect of Lonestar wasn't the most sanitary thing in the world. It's like me throwing the fat off of my steak on the floor after I'm done with it.

"There's nothing left on that plate but fat and gristle."

Yeah, I fucked up and mentioned the Outback while I was at a party at the Aussie Embassy here in Tokyo.

Needless to say, I was almost eviscerated.

It took quite a few beers to re-establish myself as an "OK American" with those folks.

George.

You make me think of something:
I don't mind wearing chain clothing, but I abhor chain restaurants.

Hmm.

Something to think about.

But I do like that onion thing at Outback.

I had an Aussie roommate in college. We took him to Outback one night, and of course there was a wait. So we decided to sit at the bar. We of course got carded, and he showed his New South Wales driver's license. They wouldn't accept it. You can imagine how hilarious he thought the situation was. Plus, he was at least 27 at the time.

George - You? An obnoxious American? Whowouldathunkit? BTW, how'd the Aussies like the Tex Mex CD that I made for their party? Or did you just pocket it yourself?

KtG - I've heard many good things about the ol' Bloomin' Onion, but alas, I'm on South Beach right now so that wasn't an option for me. And, believe me, I'm no fan of chain restaurants, either. There's so many better restaurants out there than TGIFriday's. But Outback wasn't bad for what it was.

spydrz - Nice. That reminds me of when the Simpsons ate at Americatown when they where in Japan.

That onion thing is awesome! However, I can only do about one a year.

Now, now, I prefer the term "outspoken" American. Besides, I was the closest thing to a "Texan" at that party. For those of you that don't know, I was at a Tex-Mex themed New Year's Eve party at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo.

Don't ask me how I get involved in these things...I honestly don't know.

Regardless, they loved the mix CD, and yes, I did pocket it afterwards. The mad skills of DJ Kitten Killa have gone international.

Kate - Price was not a factor, as Grandma footed the bill. "I'd like some shrimp with my prime rib, please." :)

George - Texan. North Carolina/Ohio mutt. Same thing.

spydrz - I dropped the "DJ Linus" name when I landed in Columbus. Didn't take any fake moniker, actually, but my law school colleagues dubbed me that. It's taken from this picture: http://img69.exs.cx/img69/7995/god-kills-kitten2.jpg It's great being The Lonliest Guy In Law School, I tells ya!

Ah yes, I remember that pic.

Clublint - I blame Crocodile Dundee. And I completely agree with you about all of the lawsuits.
