"I'm a hillbilly, I'm a businessman...but mostly I'm just a guy who never understood the word 'cain't'."

Pardon my absence around here for the past day or so. I bought a spiffy new iPod* (which makes my old mp3 player look like a brick) and let me tell you that burning a ton of CDs, downloading their artwork, and putting the songs on the device is time consuming. I don't keep much music on my computer, so I'm doing this all from scratch. In a little over 24 hours I've put 1150 songs (3.91 GB) on it.

So, in the meantime, enjoy this graduate thesis I found, which is about one of my favorite canceled shows - "The Ben Stiller Show" (I've been watching the DVDs a lot lately). It kinda reminds me of my sociology paper on Terminator 2.

Which ipod did you get? Was it that new video joint?

Why don't you keep music on your computer? That's the future and, if you haven't figured it out yet, the future is now.

I give you credit for the quick progress that you've made so far. I've got 3.75 GB in my library right now, but I'm really lazy and can't be bothered to copy more than a handful of CD's per week. Not to mention, I'm waiting until I get an external HD to hold all of my music.

Rock, Rock on.

Yeah, I got the 60 GB video one (white). I mainly want it to play music, but may download a video or two, just for kicks. I just need to pick a couple (I'm thinking NIN's "Only" so far). Any ideas for some kick ass videos available on iTunes? And once I figure out how to put porn on there...

I just don't like using up so much space keeping all my music on my HD. Keep in mind that I have about 2000 CDs, so that'd really eat up resources. I don't think I'd have enough room on my computer for all of it. I'm keeping all of the music I've ripped so far on just in case something goes amiss with the iPod and have to get a new one. I'm not letting all this work go to waste.

An external HD may be the way to go. Maybe I'll pick one up when/if I get a real job.

I'm ripping so much because I listen to my mp3 player at work and at the gym and I like to have a lot of variety. Plus, I'd like to get a lot of it out of the way off the bat.

I covet your video ipod. Just had to get that out of the way.

I knew you had an insane collection of CD's, that's why I figured you would go for the external HD to hold it all. Mine collection is a fraction of yours, but I don't even want to think about putting it directly on my HD.

Oh yeah, your dedication to the gym is admirable.

thse - I never really thought of the external HD option. Thanks for putting that seed in my head. And I wouldn't give me mad props for going to the gym. For the past 3 weeks I've been a homebound slave to this gas-guzzling rental SUV, so I haven't gone. I feel terrible for it. Once I get my Jetta back from the shop (this week *cross fingers*), I'll hit it hardcore.

You keep on top of the music scene. Any cool videos I can purchase for my new toy?

CB - You can be like me and drink while you rip CDs. As for bitrate, let me make this caveat: I'm not an audiophile. I can tell if it's a shit encode, but there's a point where I can't tell any difference. So, I tend to keep the bitrates sort of low so I can maximize space (see my statement about my quantity of CDs above). I'm ripping at 128 kps variable bit rate into AAC. Maybe a bit short-sighted (what if I buy a non-Apple mp3 player in the future), but that's just how I roll.

Oh, and I'm at 4.3 days as of right now. Keep in mind I have the '04 presidential debates and RNC speeches in iTunes. Yeah yeah, I'm a geek. But at least I have access to Zell Miller whenever I want.

You have Zell on there? Sweet.

All the speeches and debates were free downloads from iTunes. Not sure if they are still on there, but it's worth a check.

there are some pretty nifty vids over at Suicide Girls. but you'd probably have to be a member to get your mitts on them. Of course...I suppose I could download some and send them your way.

CB - It just occurred to me that I've never actually bought anything from iTunes. I always just get their free stuff like the election stuff and their weekly song. Not sure if that'll change much now that I got the iPod.

thse - I was thinking of music videos that you could buy from iTunes, but nekkid vids would do just as well. :)

yay, iPod!

re: student ids. I still use mine to get into movies for cheap. My gym membership guy even got in on the racket and let me sign up under the student-discount level initiation fee. As long as it vaguely resembles me, I plan to use the thing.

pfft! I piss on the college discount now that my eyes have been opened up to other avenues.

Child tickets, AAA Discounts, Government discounts...

and no, I don't fall under any of those categories.

law fairy - Yep, I'm digging it. The iPod makes work just a bit more tolerable. And I never go anywhere without my student ID. I mostly use it at the movies.

thse - You forgot AARP discounts. Seriously, scamming The Man is where it's at.
