Hump Day News Round-Up

  • A 19 year-old girl admits that calling in a bomb threat (at LaGuardia, no less) to delay a plane she was running late for was a mistake. I'm going to need to see a picture of her. If she's hot enough, I'll let her immense stupidity slide.
  • West Virginia has found the cure for the childhood obesity epidemic: Dance Dance Revolution.
  • Part of Jimmy Carter's diatribe at Corretta Scott King's funeral: "We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans." So, God's a racist? Who'da thunk it?
  • Upset with how much he paid for his car, a Florida man drove into a Ford dealership, causing almost $1 million in damage. There's two ways to solve any problem: 1) throw a house party or 2) crash your car into the object of your frustration. Giving Kid 'n' Play a phone call would've been much cheaper.
  • A woman revived a chicken using CPR. Any quip that I could make wouldn't be nearly as funny as the woman's use of the word "dadgum" in retelling her story. Flyover Country folk are so real.
  • Forget the Super Bowl. Our great country can now claim the World Grilled Cheese Eating Champion (Fun Fact: she's from my last city of residence). Mmmmmmmm...26 grilled cheese sandwiches.

it might be cheaper to call kid'n'play.....it just depends on how expensive your toilet is.

Danzu, Bobby Hill!

herodotus - A rare MW appearance by you and it's a slam on Kid 'n' Play. Oh, schnap!

law fairy - I assume "danzu" is a DDR term. I've never played the game - maybe I should. Especially since no one lives below me. (Props for bringing in Bobby Hill, though.)

I *love* how you linked to my blog in response to my comment! :D

It's a reference to an episode of KotH where the Hills are in Japan (Hank's dad had an affair with a Japanese nurse during WWII, he's getting a medal there, etc.). Bobby meets a Japanese girl who plays DDR. She doesn't speak any english but they play DDR together, and everytime she sees him she yells "Danzu!"

And there we go.

Okay, got it. I've seen that episode, but it's been a while.

As for the link, think of it as a cross-promotion. Like when Jay Sherman came to Springfield or when Spider-man met Batman. 'Cause we're just that geeky.

It is crazy how much kids love DDR. We held a program at the college I work at and tons of students came out of the woodwork to participate. Although I don't think any of them could really dance in real life especially because no one would be telling them what to do and most of them don't know what to do with their arms.

just to clarify....i wasn't necessarily takin' the piss out of kid'n'play. rather, it was a reference to the movie 'house party', and the scene where an anonymous 'depositor' breaks kid's parents' toilet....summarily ending the party. though, now that i think about it....

GMadrid - I wonder what the turnout would be if you rolled out the Grand Theft Auto.

herodotus - It's been so long since I've seen the HP saga. Sorry I didn't pick up the reference. Now, if you made a remark about Full Force...

silly gooseberries, daggonnit.

on a not-funny note, jimmy carter was refering to the people who suffered the most after the hurricane, not the same as the people who got hit by the effects of the hurricane, or would have, if they were not able to afford to personally and bodily get out of the path of the hurricane and its ensuing waters sooner.
