"Joey, have you ever been to a Vietnamese prison?"

Gary Glitter (of the jock jam "Rock 'n' Roll Pt. 2") has been sentenced to 3 years in prison by a Vietnamese court for child molestation. His defense?

"[He] claimed he was teaching the girls English, allowing them to stay overnight because they were scared of ghosts."

Uh, sure. Gary, you should've just pulled a Roman Polanski and fled the country.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Mr. Glitter originally flee the UK for Cuba for a similar problem. I suppose he was teaching those young British girls English, when....uhhh....never mind.

What has the world come to, when even years of political asylum in a corrupt, despotic, totalitarian, communist prison-state is insufficient to reform a man?

Ain't no fleeing the 'Nam.

Especially if they are set on making an example of you.

dubin - Good point. And I think he was researching for a book. Oh, wait. That was a different rock star.

THSE - Aw, c'mon. He could use his fat glam rock money to buy off some officials and take the last helicopter out of 'Nam.

Nah son, Glitter is a washed-up has-been. He hasn't got enough dough to deter a justice system that has decided that he is going ot be the example for all the other would-be perv tourists. It's perfect when you think about it; the British government probably won't put any real pressure on the Vietnamese to release him AND he's just famous enough that average pervs might think "hmmm, if that guy can get locked up...my sick ass won't stand a chance."

Good points. Once again, THSE lays down the law. You and your masters in international relations have bested me.
